S.P.C.A.

Sir,—The reply to my letter by the president of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Mr H. P. Bridge, entirely begs the question. The annual report just received shows that a subsidy of £245 was paid to maintain a privately-owned clinic; and with such a sum available it is quite possible for the society to operate its own clinic for a certain number of hours a day. with a veterinary surgeon in charge. I would like to know whether there is a“ written record of the 1442 cases of free advice given in the annual report. The covering letter sent with the annual report to members in which “malicious statements” and “reckless misstatements” are attributed to those who do not agree with the council’s present policy, shows that the council is still of the same heart in refusing to carry out many needed reforms which the public is demanding.— Yours, etc., C. R. RUSSELL. March 19, 1947.
