PALM BEARER SPRINTS WELL Palm Bearer, a candidate for the Stewards’ Handicap at Oamaru on Saturday, was responsible for the best sprint of the morning at Riccarton yesterday, when she covered four furlongs on the plough in 49sec. Palm Bearer galloped seven furlongs in Imin 30sec on Tuesday morning and will be in good order for her engagement on Saturday. With only three exceptions, all the fast work at Riccarton yesterday morning was done on the plough, which provided fast going. Palomino and Renowned finished together at the end of four furlongs in 49sec, the latter drawing level with her stablemate in the last half furlong. Palomino has done well since she raced on the West Coast circuit. Double Cross covered the last six of seven furlongs in Imin 18 l-ssec, coming home over the last half-mile in 52 l-ssec. He looks in solid condition Over four furlongs Eudora beat Handle by two lengths, with Superlative tailed off. in 49 3-ssee. Brigg Fair was stopping at the end of six furlongs in Imin 18 4-ssec, the last half in 53 4-ssec. A wind affliction seems to be affecting Brigg Fair. Over the same distance Copper Coin got her head in front of All Quality just on the post to record Imin 18 2-ssec, the last half in 52 l-ssec. Mysterious Melody and Pandosto were together at the end of five furlongs run in Imin 4sec, the last half in 50 l-ssec. Wildfire beat Nightchild by a neck at the end of six furlongs in Imin 18 2-ssec, the last half in 53 l-ssec, but Nightchild could have done better. Pacific Star sprinted over four furlongs in 49 4-ssec, Precipitate and Scotty McCabe in 50sec. Fonso and Open Cast finished on terms at the end of six furlongs in Imin 18 4-ssec, the last three in 40 3-ssec. On the trial grass Denary covered a mile in Imin 43 4-ssec. She picked up Kinlass just past the five furlongs, and the pair came home from the half-mile in 53sec. Over seven furlongs, also on the trial grass. Authentic finished a length in front of Armont in Imin 32 l-ssec, the last half in 52 3-ssec. Belle Leone and Sanskrit, which may resume racing at Waimate, sprinted four furlongs on the plough in 51 3-ssec. Avonbridge, also entered at Waimate, completed five furlongs in Imin 4sec, the last three in 39 2-ssec. Scotch Tweed and Robingay covered the same distance in Imin 4 3-ssec,' the last three in 39 ’3-ssec. Cipher was responsible for the best five furlongs of the morning, when he ran the distance in Imin 2sec, the last three in 37 2-ssec. Leigh Barton and Vain Ways completed four furlongs in 50sec. Rival Chase impressed in his six-furlong task, which he completed in Imin 17 2-ssec, the last half in 50sec. Jarred a Joint Beau Ideal will not start in the Windsor Hack Handicap at Oamaru on Saturday. as he has jarred his off fore joint badly. At this stage it looks as if he will require a long spell. At his last start Beau Ideal ran second to Queen’s General in the Parkinson Hack Handicap at Motukarara and looked to have prospects in his race at Oamaru on Saturday. His only win to date was in the Pukeuri High-weight Handicap, of one mile, run at Oamaru on January 2. Night Prince Schooled ” Night Prince was schooled over four hurdles at Riccarton yesterday morning. He will have a race over hurdles at the Easter meeting to help him in his preparation for steeplechase events later in the season. Coming to Hand The hurdlers, Battle Chief and Lunaria, both of which- are trained by G. S. Barr, are rapidly rounding into racing shape, and both should be well forward for the hurdle races at Riccarton at Easter. The hard tracks trouble Lunaria, but up to the present he has remained sound. CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB ENTRIES.
