LADY CHRISTINE AND BRUCE

4 BOTH IN GOOD ORDER “ The Press ’’ Special Service WELLINGTON, March 20. Lady Christine and Bruce, two prominent candidates for the Manawatu meeting, performed satisfactory trials at Trentham to-day. They will leave for Awapuni to-morrow. It was not possible to time any of the work as a thick fog hung over the course from daybreak till 9 a.nu and reduced visibility to about 100 yards. The plough was used for what little galloping took place. Lady Christine was partnered by Night Ops over five furlongs. Night Ops was kept up to Her work over the concluding stages, out Lady ■ Christine was going very easily under a good hold. She has benefited from her race in the North Island Challenge- Stakes, a performance which proves that she does well on a light preparation; and she may not be far frotn her best for Saturday’s engagement, in which she will be ridden by W. J. Broughton. Night Ops has two engagements a' Awapuni, and is to run in the Stonyhurst Handicap. Bruce, ridden by his. trainer, covered a mile in company with Montosorrie. They kept together until about two furlongs from home, when Bruce drew away to a three lengths’ lead. Bruce worked attractively. He has held his condition well, and is in capital order. The lack of a pacemaker may prejudice his chance in the Awapuni Gold Cup. •
