SUPREME COURT

HEARING OF DIVORCE PETITION ADJOURNED The hearing in the Supreme Court yesterday of a petition by Elizabeth Mary Ear], a married woman, of Christchurch, for restitution of conjugal rights against James William Earl, a railway employee, was adjourned until March 31 to give the parties an opportunity to reach agreement. While counsel for the respondent (Mr E. S. Bowie) was reviewing the evidence yesterday morning, there was a brief interruption from the petitioner when she shouted a statement in protest from the back of the Court. She was ordered to remain silent. Announcing his decision to adjourn the hearing, Mr Justice Fleming said he thought th6re was no reason why this family should not live happily together again. If the husband did not decide to return voluntarily, in his Honour’s present opinion an order should be made in favour of the petitioner.
