N.Z. House Postal Facilities
New Zealanders in London are protesting at a decision that postal facilities at New Zealand House are to cease at the end of March. The New Zealand Army Base Post Office, in the Strand, will close on March 31, and has issued a notice saying that mail will be held at or re-addressed from New Zealand House “only in exceptional circumstances.” “New Zealand House could be a point of contact for the many New Zealanders in London and the very large numbers of New Zealanders working in Britain or studying at universities,” writes the London correspondent of “The Press.” “It is already unusual to find that New Zealand House has a proper record of New Zealanders living in or visiting Britain. When mail facilities are discontinued, one more means of communication will be lost.”
Farmer’s Gift
A generous gesture was made by Mr M. Kirkpatrick of Greenvale, Southland, at the dispersal sale of his stud ranis and ewes. Before the auction Mr Kirkpatrick announced that he would divide the proceeds of the sale of the top-priced ram between the Red Cross and the Returned Services’ Association. The highest figure reached was 320 guineas, a South Island record for Rotnney rams sold at auction. Mr Kirkpatrick also announced ’ that he would give the proceeds of the sale of another ram which was bought for 36 guineas to the Plunket Society.
