INDUSTRIAL POLICY IN BRITAIN
CONSERVATIVE PARTY REPORT
(Special Correspondent N.Z.p.A.)
(Rec. 7.45 p.m.) LONDON, March 17. A report on industrial policy is to be published next month by the industrial policy committee of the Conservative Party. In making this announcement at the annual meeting of the central council of the National Union of Conservatives and Unionist Associations, Mr R. A. Butler said the committee had waited for the issue of the Government White Papers, but had been disappointed by their lack of constructive policy. “A much moi'e definite line than the Government’s will be taken,” said Mr. Butler. *-“It will, however, not be a final policy for an election might be upon us sooner than we think; but if an election does come soon we will be ready for it.” Mr. Butler said that the statement would not shirk facts. It would deal with denationalised industries. “Nationalisation is the most inhuman conception of all,” added Mr Butler. “I believe we have the greatest opportunity* of our career as a party.”
