NUNNELEY CASKET MATCH
HUTT VALLEY BEATS OTAGO (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 16. The Hutt Valley Lawn Tennis Association’s women’s team which won the Nunneley Casket from Canterbury early this season will now retain the trophy for the rest of the season. This was the result of its win over Otgao by nine rubbers to three at Mitchell Park, Hutt, on Saturday in the final challenge match. Hutt was leading Otago 4-2 at the close of play on Friday. A marked improvement in the standard of .--play as compared with the opening matches was seen on Saturday, more particularly in the doubles. Conditions were again excellent, although there was a fairly strong northerly breeze at times. By winning both their singles, Hutt Valley’s top pair, Mrs J. Graham and Mrs !J. Robb, maintained their unbroken record of successes in the series this season. The young Otago player. Miss M. Robertson, again won her match, and Miss E. McNeill (Hutt) scored her first success in the singles. Scores were (Hutt names first):— Singles Mrs J. Graham beat Miss M. Kerr, 6-2. 11-9. Mrs J. Robb beat Mrs J. Rawlinson 6-2, 6-3. Mrs I. Gyles lost to Miss M. Robertson 5- 5-7. Miss E. McNeill beat Mrs J. Gilkison, 6- 6-1. Doubles Mrs Graham and Mrs Robb beat Miss Kerr and Mrs Rawlinson, 6-1, 6-3. Mrs Gyles and Miss McNeill beat Miss Robertson and Mrs Gilkison, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
