LADYSMITH SIEGE SURVIVORS

ANNUAL DINNER IN LONDON

LONDON, March 14. „ Pprty-seven years ago a group of British officers, besieged in Ladysmith and living on a morsel of horseflesh and biscuit daily, decided that if they survived they would form a club and meet once a year to have the best dinner that money could buy. In its earlier years the club had nearly 100 members, but the number has now dwindled to 43. of whom General Sir lan Hamilton, aged 94, is the oldest.

Only 14 of the members were able to attend this year’s dinner, when Sir Hubert Gough, the first officer of the' relieving force to enter Ladysmith, was the guest of honour.

Reminded that the King would be visiting Ladysmith that day in the course of his South African tour, members of the club sent His Majesty a loyal message.
