MAYFIELD SHOW

EXHIBITS OF HIGH STANDARD The high standard of exhibits in previous shows was maintained at the twenty-third annual show of the Mayfield Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held on Saturday. The total of 1827 entries was an improvement on the figures for last year, but was still below those received for the shows immediately before the war. Gate receipts amounted to £lOB, this sum being £lB less than that taken at the 1946 show. Large crowds thronged the grounds to see the exhibits and watch the competitions. A feature of the P r O" gramme was the grand parade led by the Ashburton County Scottish Society’s Pipe Band. The display of needlework, fancywork, cookery, and preserves was artistically arranged and the general quality of the entries did credit to the exhibitors. The livestock section made a very impressive showing. With the favourable season, all the animals came forward in particularly good condition and were well up to show ring Standard.
