FRUIT WORKERS’ AGREEMENT

AMENDMENTS ANNOUNCED Amendments to sections of the Fruit Workers’ Agreement, which have been in operation since January 13. have been announced by the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Industrial Union of Employers. "The minimum weekly rate of wages." says the announcement, "for workers permanently employed shall be as followsmanagers. £6; other male workers of 21 years or over. £5 12s 6d; female workers. £4: youths. 15 to 16 years £1 15s. 16 to 17 years £2. 17 to 18 years £2 10s. 18 to 19 years £3 2s M, 19 to 20 years £3 12s 6d. 20 to 21 years £4 7s 6d. "An employer shall be entitled to make a rateable deduction from any weekly wages mentioned in this award for any time lost by a permanent worker through sickness, accident, or his own default, or by his written request." Provision has been made for casual workers Who have been continuously employed by the same employer for more than four weeks to be paid for statutory holidays. Hourly rates of pay for casual workers have been amended as follows:—adult male workers. 2s 9d; adult female workers. Is lOjd; youths. 16 years and under. Is 3d. 16 to 18 years Is 6d. 18 to 19 years Is 9d. 19 to 21 years 2s 4d; girls. 16 years and under Is. 16 to 18 years Is 6d. 18 to 19 years Is 7d. 19 to 21 years Is Bd. The new agreement, which will remain in force until October 31. has yet to be approved by the Stabilisation Commission.
