WOMEN’S BACKSTROKE RECORD BROKEN The visitors’ gallery at the Christchurch Tepid Baths was crowded last evening for the third night of the Canterbury amateur swimming championships, and keen interest was displayed in all events. Miss E. Bi;itain, of the East Christchurch Swimming Club, broke a record when she won the women’s 100 yards backstroke championship in 78 l-ssec. No other records were broken during the evening. D.
