Stockton Mine.— The underground section of the Stockton State mine was idle on Tuesday, when trouble concerning the employment of' shiftmen arose., The stoppage affected the open cast section of the mine, and it was also idle. A settlement was reached and the miners resumed work yesterday. •

So far the only sample of the new season’s grain received by grain merchants at Ashburton has been one of Algerian oats which was out of condition and full of hair grass. Other samples are expected shortly.
