STOCK EXCHANGES EASING IN BANK SHARES MINING An easing tendency was noticeable in the bank section on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday.. Bank of Australasia were offered at £l3 10s, without attracting buyers. This represented a drop of 2s 6d from the last sale price. , Union Banks had a seller at £l2 7s 6d, a fall of Is 6d. CANADIAN COMPANIES’ HIGH DIVIDENDS Dividend payments by Canadian companies in 1946 were the best since before the war. and substantially were above those of 1945. Total payments were 286.121,000 dollars, against 270.908,000 in 1945 and 267.273,000 in 1944. The 1946 total, however, is below the. pre-war peak of 313,108,000 in 1938. Dividends by mining companies were the lowest in several years, while disbursements by utilities and chartered banks were higher than in 1945. lI.M. Arcade Profit.— His Majesty's Arcade and Theatre Company, Auckland, shows net profit for the year ended December 31 of £2594, compared with £2142 in the previous year. Dividends on ordinary and preference shares are unchanged at 4 and 5 1-5 per cent, respectively. New York Stock Market.—The New York stock turnover on Tuesday was the lowest since August, only 690,000 shares being traded.
