MEAT PRICES IN SYDNEY
BUTCHERS REPORT WHOLESALERS (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 22. Retail, butchers have reported a number of meat wholesalers to the Meat and Allied Trades Federation for offering meat for sale above the new ceiling prices. The start of a plan by the butchers to combat the black market is seen in a statement by Mr T. A. Herbert, secretary of the Federation, that a list of delinquent wholesalers is being prepared with a view to reporting them to the Prices Branch. Butchers’ shops in Newcastle are still closed, and the master butchers have decided not to reopen until the position is reviewed on Friday. A deputation will confer with officials of the Department of Commerce and Agriculture to-day.
