AUSTRALIAN TENNIS TEAM
FOUR PLAYERS TO TOUR NEW ZEALAND (Rec. 8 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 22. The Australian tennis team to tour New Zealand has been announced in Melbourne. The members will be G. E. Brown, W. Sidwell, C. Long, and J. Gilchrist. The team will leave early in February by aeroplane. Brown, Sidwell, and Long were members of the Australian Davis Cup squad from which the team to meet the American challengers was selected. At Wimbledon last year Brown was runner-up in the singles championship to the French player, Y. Petra. Long, who is 28 years of age, is one of the outstanding Australian doubles players, and with J. Bromwich won the Victorian doubles title. Up to the last few days before the Davis Cup challenge round Long was considered to have a good chance of partnering Bromwich in the doubles. Sidwell is a brilliant volley er.
