CAPTAIN DARROCH’S CAREER
LONG SERVICE WITH COMPANY “ The Press ” Special Service WELLINGTON, January 21. Taking command of the Wanganella in 1038. Captain R. Darroch has Served with the Huddart Parker line for more than 40 years. lie commanded the Wanganella throughout the war. Captain Darroch went into steam in 1903 with the Allan line, Which Was later absorbed in a Canadian merger. He transferred to the Huddart Parker line in 1904, and since then has been ih command of every ship in its fleetj either permanently or aS relieving captain. As third officer, he joined the Wimmera, which was later mined off the New Zealand coast. For six years he was chief officer ot the Ulimaroa on the Melbourne-Bluff-Wellington run, and was appointed to the command of the Westralia in 1930.
