Presentations to Dr. D. O. Williams and his wife were made from the congregation of the St. Albans Methodist Church before Dr. Williams left Christchurch to take up an appointment as tutor at Trinity Theological College, Auckland. Several speakers paid tribute to Dr. Williams’s work as superintendent minister in the St. Albans circuit during the last five years. The chairman was Mr P. A. Le Brun (circuit steward).
Mr Frank W, Barbour, secretarydirector of Ballins Breweries (N.Z.), Ltd., is at present in Wellington, where he went to join the Wanganella to proceed to Sydney on business. Both he and Mr W. C. Marchant, another director of the company, are awaiting passages to Sydney.
Mr G. Hodge, permanent way superintendent for the Christchurch Tramweys Board, will shortly retire. He has been in the board’s service for 19 years.
Mr R. R. Senior was appointed secretary to the Christchurch Drainage Board in succession to Mr C. F. Champion, who retired at the end of last year, at last evening’s meeting of the board. Mr T. A. Tucker was appointed the board’s accountant, succeeding Mr Senior.
Two further appointments as authors for the War History Branch of the Internal Affairs Department have been made. They are Mr J. L. Scoullar, a leader writer for the "New Zealand Herald,” who is author for the 1942 campaigns, including El Alamein, and Mr W. G. McClymont, a master at Otago Boys’ High School, author for the campaign in Greece. Dental histories will be written by Mr H. V. Anson, Wellington.
Lieutenant-Colonel F. W. Voelcker, D. 5.0., M.C., the Administrator of Western Samoa, arrived in Auckland in a Sunderland flying-boat of the Royal New Zealand Air Force on Monday. A member of the New Zealand delegation to the Canberra conference to form a regional commission for the south Pacific, which begins on January 28, Colohel Voelcker flew to Wellington yesterday, and will return to Auckland on Saturday before travelling by air to Australia with the rest of the delegation on Sunday. Other passengers in the aircraft from Western Samoa were the Governor of Tahiti (Mr T. C. Haumont) and the Governor of American Samoa (Captain Hauser, United States Navy), who are also on their way to the conference; (P.A.)
