Addressing a meeting of Stoke (Nelson) orchardists last week, Mr J. H Parker, assistant-general manager of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, who recently returned from a tour of Britain, Canada, and the United States, said he saw the apples which arrived in England in the Vagrant and Rosling Castle last year. The fruit was perfect, he said, the Sturmers being fit to show. He compared that fruit with the poor quality on sale in New Zealand shops. "Everyone complains about the quality of the fruit available in the Dominion, and, in that respect, we are slipping,” he added. He had seen "rubbish” on the Wellington market and it made him realise what a poor run some of the consumers were getting. New Zealand growers had to give thought to that matter. Macpherson, of Great Warley. Essex, England suggesting that he call members of the clan together and have a Southland branch established. He also asks for the names nf leading M-cpherspns iri other parts of New Zealand, so that he can “send the good news to them.” The letter adds that a section of land on the old Cluny estate has been obtained and is now held in trust on behalf of the clan, to be Macpherson land for ever. During 1942 the Macpherson estate was finally liquidated, but as a result of an appeal to members of the clan most of the important relics were purchased.
