NEW BRIGHTON

Sir, —I thank the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrew) for his reference to my backyard. which I prefer to the present state of the highways and byways of the marine suburb; and I hope still to be awake and able to get about and see all the improvements when they take place. The original object of my letter was nqt to confuse the Mayor as to who is awake; but to point out that the civic services at present rendered in New Brighton arc inadequate and unable to meet the requirements of an established and rapidly-increas-ing residential community.—Yours, etc., • RIP VAN WINKLE. January 20, 1947.
