PROMOTIONS IN ARMY
OVERSEAS SERVICE TO BE CONSIDERED
A revision of the ranks of New Zealand regular army officers is under way. and the result will probably be announced next month during a special course for officers at Trentham. The Army Regulations provide that recognition may be given to special services by promotions, and some officers with overseas service will pass others ahead of them in seniority before the war who have had no overseas service. Another change in conditions of service contemplated in the regular army is a new scale of retiring ages. At present the retiring age is 55. but it is proposed to alter it to 55 years for brigadiers and colonels, 50 for lieuten-ant-colonels, and 47 for all other officers and other ranks. Several officers have received advice that they have reached the retiring age under the new regulations, but that they will be retained until they can be replaced
