NEW PURGE IN JAPAN
LABOUR OFFICIALS INCLUDED FORMER ASSOCIATION WITH MILITARISTS (Rec. 10 p.m.) TOKYO. Jan. 15. Labour as well as capital is affected by the newest purge directive of the Japanese Government, ousting from positions of political and industrial importance men who are deemed to have advanced the cause of the militarists and imperialists before and during the war. Important officials of labour organisations which w’ere integrated in the war-time production system will have to withdraw from public life, like the heads of employers’ organisations. It is believed that the labour officials affected—many of whom still hold influential positions—will number more than 12,000.
