BRITISH TROOPS IN JAPAN
REPORTED PLAN FOR WITHDRAWAL AUSTRALIA AND N.Z. TO TAKE OVER AREA (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 1 a.m.) LONDON, January 15. The British troops in the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan are reported to be standing by for transfer to Palestine or Empire posts, says Reuter’s Tokyo correspondent. About 3000 men of the Dorset Regiment, the Cameron Highlanders, and the Welsh Fusiliers are leaving for India shortly. Australian troops from other parts of Japan will take over their bases on Shikoku.
The Indian troops, it is reported, would then be withdrawn, leaving ‘the control of the 8.C.0.F. area to the Australian and New Zealand forces.
