STALIN “SALUTES BRITISH ARMY”
MESSAGES EXCHANGED WITH MONTGOMERY
LONDON, January 13. “I salute the brotherly British Army,” wrote Mr Stalin in Field-Mar-shal Lord Montgomery’s autograph book. Field-Marshal Montgomery sent Mr Stalin a telegram saying that the words would always remind him of Mr Stalin’s warm reception and thanking him for “the valuable talk we had.” Field-Marshal Montgomery also sent a telegram to the Russian Chief of Staff, Marshal Vasilevsky, saying: “Nov/ that we have got to know each other we must keep in close touch.”
