NEW ATTACKS IN MANCHURIA
COMMUNIST DRIVE ON CHANGCHUN CHINESE GOVERNMENT REPORTS (Rec. 10 p.m.) NANKING, January 15. Chinese Nationalist newspapers estimate that 100,000 Communists have opened attacks on Changchun, the former Manchurian capital, and are attempting to cut off the city from other Government strongholds. Korean and Mongolian cavalry units are reported to have joined the attackers.
Heavy fighting is reported at Chihamu, 58 miles north-east of Changchun, and at Yungki, 66 miles to the east.
The Nationalists claim the capture of Hosiwu, 32 miles south-east of Peiping on the main highway to Tientsin.
