POLICE ROUND UP TAXIS
DRIVERS’ BOYCOTT OF SYDNEY STATION (Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 14. In spite of the taxi-drivers' boycott, passengers arriving at the Sydney Central Station to-day by inter-state and country trains were greeted with a line of waiting cabs. The reason was that the police had toured, the city early and diverted empty taxis to the station td pick up fares. Drivers ignored single fares early this morning, but later there was brisk competition. A special police squad based on the station engages in a round-up of taxis every time the supply appears to be running low. The drivers are incensed by the Gov, ernment’s action in banning multiple hiring, and will discuss It at a stopwork meeting to-morrow afternoon.
