STORM IN NORTH ATLANTIC

MOST SEVERE OF WINTER

LUXURY LINER 60 HOURS LATE

NEW YORK, January 13. The most severe storm of this winter is raging over the entire north Atlantic. Even the biggest ships are labouring in a 50 miles an hour westerly gale*and enormous seas. Luxury liners are being delayed up to 60 hours on westward passages. Steamship offices have been flooded with inquiries and rail and air terminals report hundreds of cancellations on behalf of passengers.

The liner America, which is the pride of the American passenger fleet, arrived in New York from Europe 60 hours late. The captain said the seas were the roughest he had encountered in 34 years at sea. Some of the waves were 60 feet high. He had not had a good night’s sleep in the seven days the gale had been blowing.
