400-PASSENGER AIRCRAFT
TEST FLIGHTS IN U.S THIS YEAR LARGEST TRANSPORT IN WORLD (Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 13. The United States Army Air Force announces that test flights will be made in .April of the Consolidated Aircraft Company’s giant XC99, the world’s largest air transport, which is capable of carrying 400 passengers or 100,0001 b of cargo for 8000 miles. The aircraft has six 3000-horse-power engines driving propellors mounted on the trailing edge of the wings, and will cruise at 300 miles an hour. Its weight is 265,0001 b. It has a wingspread of 230 feet, a length of 182 feet, and a tail 57 feet high.
