SELWYN PLANTATION BOARD
Sir,—The Selwyn Plantation Board is about to build new offices in Darfield, not in the township but on its own property a mile or so away. One would have thought the board would have had them built in the township, where all the other public offices are. To have them stuck away on the board’s ground will not be very convenient to the public, although it may be to the superintendent. What has become of the Darfield Progress League? Is it asleep or defunct? —Yours, etc., PROGRESS. Darfield, December 23,-1946. [The acting-secretary of the board (Mr W. W. Brough) says: “The question of the site of the office at Darfield was fully considered by the board, which decided that it was essential that the office should be in close proximity to the nursery and plant depot, with a view to ensuring the assembly of both men and fire-fighting equipment with a minimum of delay in cases of emergency.”]
