The High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr Jordan) says he has been informed by the New Zealand Government that “an enormous number of people are wanting to come to Britain.” Commenting on this, he said: “People who do come should know they are taking the risk of having to stay -here for a year or two. notwithstanding all the introductions they may bring, and the influence they may think they will be able to use to get them a return passage. *T am informed by shipping companies in London that the number of people wanting to leave Britain for New Zealand is already 3000 in excess of the prospective shipping accommoi ation for the whole of this year. “In these circumstances, there will be little that I or anybody else will be able to do to get early return passages for visitors from New Zealand.”
