ACCOMMODATION IN CITIES
YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN GOVERNMENT TO ASSIST ORGANISATIONS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 13. The Minister of Finance (Mr W. Nash) said to-day that because of the heed to provide good accommodation under good conditions for young persons who had to leave their homes to take up work in cities, the Government had decided to assist the Young Women’s Christian Association and the Young Men’s Christian Association throughout New Zealand, where additional residential accommodation is provided by the various local associations. Under this policy, it has been decided to assist the Young Women’s Christian Association to ereet new residential accommodation in Wellington. When the association is in a position to go ahead with its project for the construction of a new building in Boulcott street to provide residential accommodation and other activities, the Government will provide a third of the cost of providing additional residential accommodation on condition that the association itself, through voluntary contributions, will find a third of the cost, while the remaining third will be made available by way of a loan from Government sources on the normal lending terms of the State Advances Corporation. Such financial assistance for the provision pf additional residential accommodation by the Young Women’s Christian Association will be available to other branches of this association and to branches of the Young Men’s Christian Association, in cases where the respective local associations plan to provide additional residential accommodation.
