MAIL DELIVERIES
Sir,—Your correspondent Albert J. Hern has written a very touching letter about mail deliveries and Post Office officials. I would like to draw the attention of the Chief Postmaster to the fact that I posted a letter by air mail from Invercargill to Christchurch on December 9, 1944; and it' has riot yet reached its destination. Maybe I am slightly impatient in allowing only a little over two years to elapse before expecting delivery. It is unfortunate that I am unable to produce even an envelope for the Chief Postmaster’s inspection to enable inquiries to be made.—Yours, etc..
NO HURRY. January 10, 1947. [The Chief Postmaster, Mr D. R.« Thomson, had no comment to make on this letter.]
Sir,—l have read with interest your correspondence from “Plain Jane,” Albert Hern, and M. Slack. The two latter appear to have missed the point. “Plain Jane’s” complaint is the delay in the delivery of mail in New Zealand, not from overseas. I regularly receive air mail from South Africa, England, Canada, etc., all of which arrives within 10 days. I also receive air mail from Hamilton and Wellsford, in New Zealand, all of which has never taken less than five or 10 days to reach Christchurch. My last air mail from Wellsford was mailed on January 2, and arrived in Christchurch on January 8, making it necessary for me io reply by telegram. Surely New Zealand can do better than this.— Yours, etc., TRAVELLER. January 10, 1847. [An inquiry would be made into “Traveller’s” complaint if the envelopes were submitted to the Chief Post Office, said the Chief Postmaster, Mr D. R. Thomson, yesterday.] •
