BUILDING PERMITS
INCREASED RETURNS FROM COUNTY COUNCILS Twice as many building permits wete issued last year by the Waimairi County Council as in 1945. The total value of the permits granted was also doubled. A big increase is also shown in returns over the same period from the Heathcote County Council. Most of the increase in that case is accounted for by housing construction. Figures supplied yesterday by the Waimairi County Council showed that 689 permits were issued in 1946 with a total value of £694.461 15s, compared with 305 with a value of £318,022 in 1945. Included in this total were 322 permits issued for dwellings in 1946 of a total value of £471,011, compared with 141 permits valued at £196,694 for 1945.
Returns from the Heathcote County Council show that in 1946, 206 building permits were issued (£138,101 in value) of which 185 were for dwelling’s (£134,371). In the previous year only 143 permits (£81.325) were issued and of these 119 (£74,179) were for dwellings.
