GOVERNMENT OF FRANCE
term ends this WEEK PRESIDENT OF REPUBLIC TO BE ELECTED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) PARIS, January 12. A French Government communique says the Blum Government’s measures to enforce a 5 per cent, cut in the prices charged in shops have received general approbation through the country, reports the “Daily Telegraph’s” correspondent in Paris. The success of the campaign now depends on whether the Government, which at the end of this week will succeed the Blum caretaker Government, wtll be able to put a second cut of another 5 per cent, into effect by March 1, as has been promised. The formation of a new government is bound up with the election of a president of the Republic and of the Assembly. Mr Vincent Auriol is expected to be re-elected president of the Assembly. He will also probably stand for the presidency of the Republic for which he is regarded as the favourite.
