TAURANGA CHAMPIONSHIP TO BEGIN TO-MORROW
The Tauranga class yachting championship for the Tanner Cup will begin on the Estuary to-morrow, the first race starting at 11.15- a.m. A meeting of provincial delegates held yesterday morning to set the conditions for the competition decided that the races, two of which Will be sailed each day, will be held over windward and leeward and triangular courses alternately, the time limit on each race being two hours and a quarter.
The following officials were elected:— judge, Mr J. C. Wilcocks (Auckland); starter, Mr T. Mackay (South Auckland); timekeeper, Mr G. Hewitt (Tauranga); recorder, Mr T. B. Reynolds (Wellington); assistant, Mr P. Wrightson (Napier); floating judge, Mr E. S. Walton (Mount Pleasant); measurers, Mr D. Jackson (Auckland) and all delegates. CORNWELL CUP CONTEST TIME LIMIT EXPIRES FOR FIRST RACE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 13. Light conditions prevailed for the first Cornwell Cup race, at times fading away to a flat calm, and the race did not finish within the time limit of three hours. The race had been keenly contested, 13 boats competing in spite of the conditions, and the leading positions changed with each fresh puff of wind. Auckland was leading when the time limit expired. The first race will now be sailed at 10.30 a.m. to-morrow.
