EGYPT’S NEW CABINET

CHAMBER’S VOTE OF CONFIDENCE

PREMIER’S STATEMENT ON TREATY TALKS

(Rec. 7 p.m.) CAIRO, Dec. 16. The Egyptian Chamber of Deputies, following a short debate on policy, passed a vote of confidence in Nokfashy Pasha’s new Government by 155 to 21 with seven abstentions. During the debate, Nokrashy Pasha said that if the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty negotiations failed he would place the matter in the hands of the Security Council. Nokrashy Pasha declared that Egypt would spare no effort to direct the Sudan towards self-government and prepare its people to direct their own affairs. Egypt in affirming the permanent unity of Egypt and the Sudan was only expressing the desire of the Nile Valley’s peoples. Makram gbade Pasha, leader of the Wafdist fclqc and 3 member of the now dissolved Egyptian Treaty Talks delegation, alleged that America took a hand in the talks. America had sent a Note to Sidky Pasha advising him to sign an alliance with England and try to reach agreement with her. Makram Pasha added that he expressed astonishment to Sidky Pasha. Makram Pasha said it would be better for America as the champion of freedom to respect Egypt's desire for complete independence and unrestricted liberty.
