LAND FOB OIL INSTALLATION

NO ACCOMMODATION AT AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD’S REPLY TO ANGLO-IRANIAN COMPANY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, December 17. Suggesting that other oil companies should be approached for space, the Auckland Harbour Board decided to advise the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company that no accommodation was available for the company’s proposed bulk oil installation. The company, in which the Government will have a controlling New Zealand interest, asked last month for 10 to 15 acres with road and rail access, and deep water tanker berthage on the waterfront. The board will advise the company that it has already set aside areas on the Freeman’s Bay reclamation and the' western reclamation which, in the opinion of the oil industry after a conference held in 1944, was sufficient to meet the requirements of the industry for many years to come. The suggestion will be made that the existing oil companies should be approached to make arrangements for the accommodation of the Anglo-Iranian Company in areas already reserved for this purpose, and where deep sea berthage was already available and being extended.
