CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION REVERSION TO TWO-DAY MATCHES FAVOURED One-day cricket, the matches commencing at IQ a.m., will be played until January 11, after which a general meeting of club delegates will be called on January 14 to review the position. This was decided on at a meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association last evening. The competitions committee, in its report, recommended that one-day cricket be played on January 11, after which two-day matches, commencing at 1 p.m.. be played. Mr D. A. Colville, who presided, said some clubs were not happy in the arrangements for morning play; but per-r sonally, he would like it to continue. One-day cricket with games commencing at 10 a.m. was merely a temporary arrangement, with the idea of catching up days lost because of bad weather. He was all in favour of the early start. Mr W. O. Mappiebeck said he was in favour of morning play: and Mr R. C. SaunHers said he had heard no growls from playerk. It was impossible to improve the standard of play unless time was put into the game, and early starting gave more time for play. “If players are not prepared to give some time to cricket, it is. a bad lookout for the game,” Mr Anderson said. It was decided to express to the Lancaster Park Club the thanks of the association for allowing the -vclub’s professional, J. H. Parks, to coach young players from other clubs. The meeting was satisfied that great work in the education of young players had been done by the professional coach, and now that he was giving all his attention to the coaching of the representative team, a good display could be expected against Otago in the first game.

The finance committee recommended that any profits from the M.C.C. team’s tour of New Zealand should ,be allocated to the major associations after the New Zealand Council had taken its percentage, a condition being that a part of the allocation should be earmarked for encouragement of cricket in minor associations. It was decided to appoint a sub-com-mittee to write along the lines suggested to the NeW Zealand Council and to forward copies of the letter to the minor associations.
