LABOUR PARTY CAUCUS
FORTY-ONE MEMBERS PRESENT
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 17. The Parliamentary Labour Party met to-day, when 41 members were present; The only member absent was the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones), who is attending a conference of the South Pacific Air Transport Council in Canberra.
The following new members received a cordial welcome: Messrs R. Macdonald (Ponsonby), T. E. Skinner (Tamaki), Dr. A. M. Finlay (North Shore), Messrs P. Kearins (Waimarino), M. Moohan (Petone), the Hon. A. McLagan (Riccarton), and Mr W. A. Hudson (Mornington). Mr G. H. Ormond Wilson received a special welcome on his return to the ranks of the Labour Party in Parliament. Regret was expressed by all present at the absence of five members who failed to secure re-election, Messrs F. W. Schramm, J. Thorn, E. P. Meachen, C. Morgan Williams, and W. M. C. Denham. A resolution expressing the sense of great loss sustained by the party, of high appreciation of the past able, and most valuable services given to the cause of Labour by all five of them, and the sincere wish .and belief that they Avould again be returned at the first opportunity, was passed. A vote of sympathy with the widow and other relatives of Mr Peter Carr, who succeeded Mr Savage in the representation of Auckland West, was carried,
members standing. High appreciation of Mr Carr’s fine upright character,, his loyalty and devotion to the cause of Labour, and his faithfulness in the carrying out of Parliamentary duties was >
