HOME FOR ELDERLY INVALIDS
STAFFING UNDERTAKEN BY ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, November 11. The staffing of the Knox home for elderly invalids, which reached such a serious position a fortnight ago that it seemed that the home would have to close, has been guaranteed for the future by the St. John Ambulance Brigade. It was announced to-day that an offer by Mr D. F Mackay, commissioner of the brigade, to staff and run the home as a brigade activity had been accepted by the Knox Home Trust Board. Members of the nursing division of the brigade, under the lady district superintendent, Mrs F. Turner, will staff the home, and it is hoped to make it a New Zealand training centre for St. John Ambulance voluntary aids. Mr Mackay and Mrs Turner, together with about 30 St. John Ambulance nurses, visited the home at Panmure on Saturday morning. The party made a thorough inspection of the home and farm and visited most of the inmates. The gratitude of the Knox Home Trust Board to the brigade for guaranteeing future staffing of the home was expressed by the acting-chairman of the board, Mr H. T. Goldie-. The trustees will meet representatives of the St. John Ambulance Brigade immediately and complete in detail the staffing arrangements.
