AUCKLAND CLUB

GAMBLE KING AND LUCKY LOYAL IN FORM W. R. Butt is the only Canterbury trainer with horses engaged at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting to-morrow, and as his pacers. Gamble King and Lucky Loyal, are both in good order and well placed in the handicaps, he should not return empty-handed from the long trip. A consistent pacer, Gamble King finished in the money in 11 of his 16 starts last season, and, as he- showed by his time of 3min 32 2-ssec when he followed Jeeves home in the Cambridge Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on September 7, he is-back to his best form. The Gamble gelding is off the front of the September Handicap to-morrow, and he should be hard to catch over the mile and a half journey. ' Lucky Loyal, which is off the scratch mark in the sprint, the Takanini Handicap, finished third to Battle and Catalpa over two miles in the National Handicap on the second day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting and, if Butt can keep him close to the leaders early, he should extend the favourite. Great Belwin, at the finish. Jottings , Tell Us will probably be sent out a strong favourite for the Brightwater Handicap at the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting to-morrow. This Quite Sure mare won a heat attractively at the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ matinee meeting at Addington recently. Laurie Bingen, a gelding by Peter Bingen from Ariel Bell, is one of the favourites for the First Improvers’ Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting. He showed his best form last season at the Cambridge Trotting Club’s meeting on June 8 when, after being slow away, he finished fast to win the First Winter Handicap from Frances Bel. Loyal King is back in work in W. R. Butt’s team. A good stayer, he will have several opportunities to race at the Cup meeting in November. A. Leggett’s pair, Blue Match and High Stakes, are expected to race well at the Nelson meeting. Ena Parrish’s consistent record entitles her to consideration for the Royal Oak Handicap at the Auckland meeting.

Divisions at Geraldine The number of acceptors for the Geraldine Trot Handicap at the Geraldine Rac-, ing Club’s meeting is in excess of the safety number, and the race will be run in divisions, as follows:—first division: Baadin Blue Revue, Coral Princess, Dilbar, Dillon View, First 'Shot, Glenwellyn, Hardy Annual, Kahurangi, Last Wrack, Lochdomie. Queen Jewel, Rural Lady, Scottish Star, Thelma Grattan, War Glory. Second division: Branford, Gallant Sylvia, Guidance, Hydro Belle, Locknit, Lusty Maid, Lyceum, Marnoc, Private Seal Remlap, Rimmo, Snowflake, Star Artist, Tolan, Trixie Hall, Tungsten Steel. Bracketed horses are: Blue Revue and Marnoc, Baadin and Snowflake. Hardy Annual aad Hydro Belle, Dillon View and Tungsten Steel, Scottish Star and Rimmo, Loch Dornie and Lyceum, First Shot and Private Seal. Dilbar and Remlap, Last Trixie Han Star Artfst ' Glenwellyn and

Snowflake's Prospects Although she is racing against older horses, the three-year-old filly, Snowflake, is a smart youngster and she should show up over the mile and a quarter journey-in the Geraldine Trot at the Geraldine Racing Club’s meeting to-morrow. Snowflake is also an acceptor in the faster class, Orari Trot, and to be correctly assessed she would need to win at her first appearance. Trained by L. F. Berkett, Templeton, the daughter of Dillon HalL and Silk Stockings gave a fine display in the Canterbury Three-year-old Stakes on the first day of the National meeting, when, after taking the lead with half a mile to go, she just failed to hold off Free Fight over the last furlong. Both Good Caledonian Gold and Gold Strand both showed good form last season, and the clash between the two in the United Handicap should provide one of the highlights at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting to-morrow. A four-year-old gelding by Gaillard from Gretta Parrish, Caledonian Gold recorded three second placings in his first three starts last season, and then followed up with wins at the Manawatu and Cambridge meetings. Gold Strand secured his first win for the season at the Auckland Trotting Club’s matinee meeting on May 25, and after being transferred to G. Fitzgerald’s stable at Epsom he won the First Oneroa Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on June 22. A qve-year-old gelding by Josedale Grattan from Gold Dredge, Gold Strand is reported to be working well, and he will probably go out favourite in his race to-morrow. Treasurer Appointed To fill the vacancy caused by the elevation of Mr J- Steel to president, Mr W, E. J, Steer has been appointed treasurer to the Greymouth Trotting Club. The club have increased the prize money to £3500 for their meeting on October. 20 and 28, the main events on the first day being the 4min 40sec clas3 Kitchmgham Memorial Handicap of £4OO and the £250 Dash. Handicap of one mile and a quarter. The feature races on the second day of the meeting, the Labour Day Handicap' and the Final Handicap, carry the same stakes and are tax the same class horses. Likely Improver

Remlap, which is an acceptor in both the trotting %evnts fft the Geraldine Racing Club’s meeting, has been nominated for the Shirley Handicap (a race for improvers) at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting next week. Trained at Russley by M. Holmes for Mr J. Palmer, Remlap showed his best form last season to finish second to Redcliffe Direct in the Army Handicap at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on October 13, after leading into the straight. A gelding by Lusty Volo, he is out, of a winner - in Olive Rey, which is by Rfey de Oro from Olive Audubon, by Great Audubon from Pansy, -a Prince Huon mare which was imported from Australia. Has Some Form

The Southland pacer, Royal Victory, is an interesting acceptor at the Nelson meeting, and he mgy race well in the Motueka and Stoke Handicaps. A six-year-old gelding by Quite Sure from Little Mountain, he showed some form when trained by A. McLellan, Invercargill, to win the Dash Trot on a holding track from New Order and Notus at the Winton Jockey Club’s meeting on November 3. At his next start. Royal Victory finished in second place to Ima Grattan in the Mclntyre Trot at the Tapanui Racing Club’s meeting on December 15, and at his second appearance at the same meeting he followed Ima Grattan and Frae Dunown home in the Fassifern Trot. Royal Victory is meeting weak fields at Nelson, and he should pay his way at the meeting. Showed Some Speed

Volo Audubon showed some speed at the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders' Association’s matinee meeting at Addington after breaking in the early part of the race, and If S. C. Wright can persuade him to go kindly all the way he may take part in the finish of the Orari Trot at Geraldine to-morrow.

May Win at Nelson Billy McElwyn pleased by his work at Addington on Tuesday morning, and A. H. Gourlay should win a race with this David McElwyn trotter at the Nelson meeting. Since being trained by Mr Gourlay, who races him in partnership with Mr JOwen, Billy McElwyn has raced consistently to record five minor placings in his last six starts.

By Quito Sure Gun Smoke, which secured one minor placing in six starts as a three-year-old last season, is back in work at Inver, cargill, and he may race prominently at the spring meetings. A gelding by Quite Sure, he is out of Erin’s View, which is out of the Erin’s King mare Invincible, Methven Trotting Club

Annual meeting. October and trainers are reminded that nominations for all events close with the undersigned on Monday. September 23, at 5 pan. J. F. Stone. Secretary. Methvexu Advt
