THE CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATION
ELECTION OF COMMITTEE CRITICISM OF METHOD Disapproval of the method of selecting a general committee for the Christchurch Citizens’ Association was expressed by several members at the annual meeting last evening. Questions were asked when the chairman (Mr A. S. Taylor) read out a list of names which he said would comprise the, committee for the coming year. Mr R. Nottingham said that he had f>ut forward four names, and on the ist which was read out by the chairman, only two appeared. Who selected the committee? ne asked. Mr Taylor said that 20 members retired by rotation each year, and the remainder was made up by new nominations. The discussion was then taken in committee* this step being opposed by Mr Nottingham. On the resumption in open meeting, a decision to hold a ballot for the committee was made. The question of some of the nominees not being financial members was raised, but it was agreed to take no action in the matter. By ballot, the following were elected to' the general committee, in addition to the 20 members whose term has not expired:—Messrs T. W. Andrews. J. B. Bremner, W. Copeland, M. P. Eales, W. P. Glue, J. J. Hurley, C. P. Penlington. A. J. Scott, A. G. Williams, L. R. Burt, P. G. Ellis, K. S. Jameson, J. R. Mating, H. E. Radley, AT N. Stone P. Henderson, Turnbull, C. G. McKellar, M. Mills, and Miss M. McLean. Other officers elected were:—chairman, Mr A. S. Taylor; vice-presidents, Mrs G. H. Watts, Sir Hugh Acland. Messrs E. H. Andrews, S. G. Holland, M.P., H. G. Livingstone, M. E. Lyons, W. S. Mac Gibbon, D. Rouse, J. H. Rhodes; treasurer, Mr E. H. S. Hamilton; auditor, Mr J. W. K. Lawrence; secretary, Mr J. A. S. Marris. Further discussion developed when altefatibns to the rules were discussed, and after a reading of alterations and additions, the rules were confirmed.
