NGARIMU MEMORIAL.—A plaque erected on the Ngarimu playing field at Te Wai Pounamu Maori Girls’ College. The inscription, translated, reads: “The name of this playing field, it is Ngarimu, to hold in honour and in remembrance the first of the Maori race to be awarded the Victoria Cross. His name, it is Second-Lieutenant Moana Nui a Kiwa Ngarimu, of Ngati-porou Tribe. He died for his King, his country, and his people, at Tebaga, in Tunisia, 27.3.1943.”
