RAW WOOL STOCKS

RECORD HOLDINGS IN AMERICA (Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 19. The United States Census Bureau reports that commercial stocks of raw wool on June 29 amounted to the record total of 563,000,0001 b (scoured basis). This is 13 per cent, above the figure for the previous quarter, and the fifth consecutive quarterly rise since April 1, 1945. The director of the American Wool Council (Mr E. Ackerman) said the wool textile industry was passing from a seller’s to a buyer’s market. He predicted an imminent return to highly competitive conditions. Shortages in woollens and worsteds were in “wanted” types, notably men’s clothing.
