PEACE TREATIES
VIEWS OF N.Z. GOVERNMENT
(Special Correspondent N.Z.PA.) (Rec. 11 p.m. ) LONDON, April 7. The view expressed at the Dominion Ministers’, discussions in London that a peace conference to consider treaties with Italy, Finland, Bulgaria, Rumania, and Hungary should be held as soon as possible was endorsed by the New Zealand Minister of Finance (the Rt. Hon. W. Nash).
He said: “In my opinion, and tn the opinion of the New Zealand Government, the conference should be held at the earliest possible date. The longer the delay in calling it, the more difficult the proceedings are likely to be. The mere fact that disagreement on certain of the provisions is apparent between the four major Powers does not in any way warrant the postponement of a conference of all the Powers that experienced the Nash added that with the world in accord with the principles of the United Nations, plans for avoiding war should not be left to the four nations, however competent their representatives might be. The countries that supplied men and munitions and whose personnel had lost their lives were also concerned in the problems of peace. But while they had a primary interest decisions had to be taken affecting the whole of the United Nations and they should be determined at the earliest possible date.
