NEW ZEALAND’S PRODUCTION

NEED FOR INCREASE SEEN ADDRESS BY MR FRASER (P'A.) AUCKLAND, May 7. A terse reference,to the need for increased production throughout New Zealand industry was made by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) in an address to an overflow meeting of Auckland Suburbs electors at New Lynn to-night. An enthusiastic reception, with musical honours, was given the Prime Minister. “There are two battles we must fight with at! the strength at our command,” said Mr Fraser. “One is the battle of production, and the other is the electoral battle, which will be decided toward the end of November or early in December.

“Unless everybody gives of his or her best, and stimulates production to the fullest capacity, they are helping to destroy all we have built up as a Labour Government,” said Mr Fraser. “We must keep our ships, railways, and factories moving steadily and constantly, with the maximum of effort. There must be a voluntary drive for production to keep our country prosperous. Let me repeat, with emphasis, that unless our work continues industriously, and we all do our best in every way. we are undermining our present and future prosperity. Moreover, all the Government’s plans for improving standards of living and establishing social security on a strong basis will come to dust and ashes." x

Sumner R.S.A. Grounds.— Recently Mr M. J. Barnett. Superintendent of Parks and Reserves, was consulted on proposed improvements to the grounds of the .Returned Services’ Association’s headquarters. It is now intended to lay down a lawn on the vacant area adjoining the hall and later to open a miniature rifle-range. Provision is made in the plans for a concrete kerbing 18 inches in height. Two concrete pillars will mark the entrance, and in these pillars it is intended to place slabs of marble on which will be inscribed the names of the men. within the branch’s district, who lost their lives in the recent war. It is also planned to place a memorial lamp on the top of each pillar.
