PRESSURE BY TRADE UNIONS
(Rec. 10.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 6. “The newspapers recently have spoken sneeringly of trade unions as pressure groups, and I am not going to deny the correctness of that title when applied to this union,” said the national secretary of the Federated Ironworkers’ Union (Mr E. Thornton) when presenting the annual report to a conference. “I don’t think there would be one voice raised to suggest that we can get justice for the workers without exerting the maximum amount of pressure we can accumulate.”
