NAZI GAULEITER SENTENCED
. DEATH PENALTY FOR WAR CRIMES LONDON, May 3. A French military court at Strasbourg condemned to death for war crimes Robert Wagner, former Gauleiter of Alsace, and five of his German aides. The charges included inciting Frenchmen to fight against France, and various Gestapo murders.
“Butcher” Wagner was accused of the massacre of 30,000 anti-Nazis in a death camp in Alsace and of deporting a similar number of Alsatians to German labour camps in Russia and Rumania.
