TRAVEL CLUB

ANNUAL REPOST The sum of £6208 has been raised by the Canterbury (N.!?,) Travel Club, since the outbreak of war- for patfiotic and welfare work, and of this sum £758 wag raised during the last year. Members in the last year have helped with nine street appeals, collecting £362. and have gold health stamps to the face value of £B3O. , 3 ?, es particulars are recorded jq the clubs ninth annual report, to be presented at thg annual meeting to be held this month.

The membership of the 'club, it is noted, is 720 and there ip a waiting list. The report regrets that, during the last year, it has been necessary to restrict the club’s guest list at morning recep* tians te overseas visitors and members of other Travel Clubs and thanks are expressed to the entertainment committee for u§ good work in helping to serve the morning teas. Amongst the club’s many activities have been the work of a knitting circle which knits for needy persons in England, the staffing of the information Bureau m Cathedral square, the packing of overseas parcels, and the raising oi money for the Mayoress’s Parcels Fund, and for Te Wai Pounamu. An outline Pf the work done by he General Service Corps, which was formed b> the Travel Club and carried out much patriotic work for five years, is given in the report, and it is recorded that, although the corps has disbanded, members are still carrying on the sale of national savings stamps, and have helped householders to save £15.452 through the efforts of 108 sellers.

WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION A- Harper presided at the seventeenth annual meeting and birthday party of the Christchurch branch ol the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, The following officers were elected: —president, Mrs A. Harper; vice-presidents, Mrs Duff find Mrs Gibson; secretary. Miss Morrison; treasurer, Mrs Rountree; committee, Mesdames Foley. Atkinson. WornalJ, and Templeton. Prizes for thg year’s com* petitions were' awarded as follows;—cup for most points, Mrs H. W Mason; large bloom, Mrs Foley 1, Mrs Wornall 2; small bloom: Mrs R. Mason 1, Mrs Keith 2. Cluster: Mrs H. Mason 1, Mrs Wornall 8- Songs were sung by Mrs £ and Miss Napper.

Harewood.—Mrs Orchard presided at the annual meeting qf the Harewood branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. It was reported that, during the year, donations Hfid been sent to the Crippled Children Society. Leper Fund, Rest Homes, Headquarters Funds Knitted garments and books had also been sent to the British Sailors’ Society and to men of the Merchant Navy. The following officers were electedpresident, Mrs M. Orchard, re-elected; secretarytreasurer, Mrs G Montgomery; vicepresidents, Mesdamps F. Clariqge and F. Preece; committee, Mesdames W Hayton, C Penny, and W. Nun week.

Port Levy.—The seventh annual meeting of the Port Levy branch of the Women s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held tn the local schoolroom The president read her report of the year’s activities, which showed that m e fobers had been very active during the year The balance-sheet showed a good credit balance. It was decided that stamps should he ppheefod for the leper fondand that at the next meeting, a collection of clothing was to be made for the Nurse Maude Association Arrangements were made for the birthday party to be held at the enu of May. The election of officers resulted as follows: —president: Mrs W S. Coop; vice-presidents, Mrs O. Turpin and Mrs L. Field; secretary. Mrs M. Watson; advisory’ member and delegate, Mrs F. Jenkins; competition secretary, Miss E. Jennings. The hostesses were Mrs and Miss Wilson.
