PERSIA AGAIN ON AGENDA
Next Meeting Of UNO Council CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) NEW YORK* May 2. The Secretary-General of UNO, Mr Trygve Lie, has been asked to call a session of the Security Council on May 7 to consider the Persian case. The Security Council’s resolution on April 4 called for reports by May 6 from Russia and Persia on the progress of the evacuation of Russian troops from Persia. A spokesman for the Security Council, disclosing that a session was sought for May 7, said that the deadline for the Russian withdrawal from Persia did not expire until midnight on May 6, and therefore the delegates did not want to meet before May 7. The delegates said that they had no information on the progress of the withdrawal. Observers are at present speculating whether the Russian representative, Mr Gromyko, will attend the session on May 7, He has not indicated his intentions since the recent debate when he announced that he would not participate further in discussions on the Persian case. United Nations* activities to-day-were confined to meetings of the three agencies preparing for a session on May 23 of the Economic and Social Council Commission on Human Rights. The meeting recommended that each of the 51 member nations should nominate individuals for appointment to a permanent Human Rights Commission, with the final selection of probably 21 members in the hands of the Economic Council.
