RAILWAY CROSSING COLLISION
MAN’S DEATH FROM INJURIES From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, March 1. When a mixed train crashed into a light motor-lorry on the Blackball crossing in the Ngahere railway yards shortly before 10 o’clock this morning, a passenger in the lorry. Thomas Liddell. 20. single, a miner of Atarau, received severe injuries to his head, from which he died in the Grey Hospital at 1.45 p.m. The train was approaching the Ngahere station when the accident occurred. The lorry, driven by John McDonald, miner, of Blackball, was going from Blackball across the line to Ngahere. Liddell was the only passenger. McDonald was thrown clear and received only a slight cut on the head. The truck was struck on the near side, on which the passenger was seated, and after being carried along for a few yards was thrown clear of the line. Both McDonald and Liddell were thrown from the vehicle. The truck was badly smashed. BOY KILLED BY TRAIN (P.A.) AUCKLAND. March 1. A two-year-old boy, Philip John Treen. a son of Mr W. J. Treen, Waterview road, Tironui, was killed instantly this morning when he was run over by a north-bound train from Mercer. It is believed that the child wandered from his home on to the track.
